The river erosion in Mun-shiganj. Manikganj. Tangail and Jainalpur districts took a serious turn yesterday following the rise of water levels in different points of the river Padma and Jamuna, officials said, reports BSS.’

"River erosion due to strong current in the river Padma and Jamuna caused a serious damage and affected hundreds of people in these districts." local administration sources said.

A vast area in Shibalaya and Ghior thanas under Manikganj district. Bhuapur under Tangail district and the Munshiganj town protection embankment are under serious threat of river erosion due to the incessant rains and strong current in the river Padma and Jamuna, the sources said.

Sources from Tangail said that strong Current in the river Jamuna threatened a vast area of the Bhuapur thana in the district. Besides, most of the rivers in the Ganges basin including the Padma recorded further rise at all points due to onrush of water from the upstream and torrential rain during a last couple of days, officials of the Flood Information Centre said.

"The Padma registered further rise by 13 cm at Pankha, 9 cm at Rajshahi, 4 cm at Goalundo. 8 cm at Bhagyakul and is flowing above danger level." they said.
