Acute shortages of books, journals, and other educational resources have gripped the library of Dhaka Medical College (DMC). once famous for professional excellence, reports UNB.

The students and facully members are more or less dependent on the nearby British Council library and other special libraries fike ICDDR.B for meeting academic requirement.

"The necessary textbooks and journals for meeting the academic needs are rarely visible on the selves while visual

aids are virtually absent from the library," Nipa Rahman, a final year student of DMC told BSS.

Library officials admitted that they have very limited resources to procure medical books. Journals and CD-ROM which are very expensive.

"As the textbooks and visual aids are costly the medical libraries should have those to cater to the needs of the students," Abu Bakar Siddique (Manik), a fifth year student said. "DMC library now a days fails to provide even necessary textbooks and journals." he added.

"The library has become an official archive of historic medical books and the students are forced to buy most modern textbooks from different bookstores across the world." Kamal Hossain, a fourth year student alleged.

The students and faculty members urged the authorities of DMC to refurbish the library with Internet facilities. They also requested the DMC administration to allocate immediate funds for procurement of modern medical textbooks and journals. •
