Unfortunate developments at

BUET

Sir, The members of the 61-Club are deeply concerned at the recent unfortunate developments in their dear alma mater, the BUET. They find no words strong enough to condemn the mindless violence by some students against the teachers. The finest seat of higher learning in the country having age old tradition should not be allowed to become hostage to the indisciplined conduct of some students.

It is the responsibility of all. particularly the government, to uphold the dignity, honour and above all the academic authority of the teachers.

The law should be allowed to take its due course as it is normal in any civil society. Such undesirable and unsolicited incidents are bound to seriously undermine the congenial environment for higher education in the country which this institution has been upholding since its very inception.

The members of the 6i-Club sincerely hope dial all attempts shall be made by all quarters concerned to prevent such untoward happenings in future.

What's with BUET?

Sir. What's with BUET? Most renowned Engineering university of Bangladesh now hitting headlines with teachers going after students and students violating teachers. Time has come for a thorough investigation. We as guardians are worried because we can sense a conspiracy eating up the sacred educational institution.

Unpleasant things are surfacing. The most prestigious academic institution has been infected with internal politics. If the conspiracy is true then BUET is in the hand of power hungry academician and what can be worse than that?

Just when we are starting fresh after being exhausted by so many articles written for

and against admission issue on Architecture something even more excessive than any events in the history of BUET has come up.

The TV crime

Sir. The box news of the DS on TV crime has drawn rny attention. The trick that the gang used was nothing new. This type of trick was tried out in several times in several occasions on several items and not seizing IV alone.

We know that a group of organized criminals play role of police, custom inspector. Army personnel and many others....and befool the people. And we all know that all these do not happen in street alone, the 'plays’ take place inside home as well.

After knowing all these, how responsible was BTV in giving public announcement with half

of the iniurmation'’ Why didn't they also announce the roles, authority and structure of the team that they planned to send for checking license? Why are they telling us now that had this team been visiting and finding TV set without license, they would have not been in a position to seize? I think they wanted to favour the Team for finding 'easy' solution with the default owners.

This is completely unacceptable for sharing one bit of information by BTV. which has put all of us at risk of being cheated by an organized group. Who is responsible for these consequences? I feel BTV should hold partial responsibility and immediately give open announcement giving the complete description of the team and the work plan. Otherwise, face the consequences, when your team are being rejected and beaten (in some cases) by the TV set owner!
