The Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Association (FBUTA) yesterday demanded judicial inquiry into the recent development on the BUET campus that led to widespread damage and attack on teachers and their families, reports BSS.

In a statement to the press yesterday night, the association president Prof. Jashim Uddin Ahmed and secretary general Dr AM Faruque expressed their deep concern at and lodged a strong protest while describing such activities as terrorism on the BUET campus.

The association leaders expressed their opinion that exemplary punishment to the persons responsible for the incident through a judicial inquiry could only stop its recurrence and restore proper atmosphere in the educational arena in the country.

In another statement, members of the 61-club expressed their deep concern at the unfortunate development on the BUET campus recently and said they found no word to condemn the violence by some students against their teachers.

"The finest seat of higher learning in the country having age-old tradition should not be allowed to become hostage to the indisciplined conduct of some students." the statement said.

The club members urged the government and all concerned to uphold dignity, honour and above all academic authority of teachers.
