The driver and helper of a bus of Dhaka University received serious injuries when miscreants hurled a cracker on them in the city's Dhanmondi area yesterday morning.

Driver Mohammad Masum Mia and helper Ibrahim were admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Sources said the bus Taranga' came under attack while it was coming back from Mohammadpur at about 8:20 In the morning. When it stopped in front of the Plasma Plaza at Dhanmondi 15 bus stand, some unidentified youths numbering about three swooped on its helper Ibrahim and beat him up mercilessly.

When bus driver Masum tried to save the helper, the culprits hurled a cracker on them. They received injures in their hands and chests.

Condition of Ibrahim was stated to be critical. DMCH sources said. However, no student in the bus was Injured.

The culprits left the scene immediately after the incident.

Meanwhile, ruling party's student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) brought out a procession on the university campus and held a rally in front of DUCSU Building to protest the attack.

At the rally, the BCL leaders held the activists of opposition BNP's student wing Jatiy-atabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) responsible for the attack and demanded immediate arrest and punishment of the attackers.
