A five-member delegation of MPs from the UK Parliamentary Select Committee for International Development (IDC) Monday visited a number of slum development projects at Mirpur being run by Proshika under its urban poor development programmes, reports BSS.

Chairman of the committee Bowen Wells is leading the delegation. while the other members included Ooma King. Andrew Rowe. Dr Jennifer Ponge and Tony Worthinton.

The delegation members expressed deep satisfaction over the success of the programmes in attaining economic benefits for the poor slum people, specially the socio-economic uplift of women.

At Mirpur. the delegation visited "Lucky Mohila Samity'' and "Sugandha Mohila Samity" where they witnessed with keen interest various activities by women like embroidery, silk saree production and running grocery shops. They also visited non-formal primary education and adult literacy centres being run by Proshika.
