Speakers at a seminar underscored the need for regular financial support for the elderly citizens of the society.

They said that government should provide regular allowance to the elderly citizens so that thev could maintain a dignified life.

Bangladesh Federation of University Women- (BFUW) organised the seminar on 'Socioeconomic Condition of Older Persons in Bangladesh' at Women's Voluntary Association (WVA) auditorium recently.

Dr Syeda Feroza Begum. Meherunnessa Islam. Prof Najma Siddiqui, Prof Rawshan Ara Rahman. Salma Khan. Nargis Khan. Latifa Akhand. Akhtar Imam, Anamika Huq, Mitali Huq and Dr Enamul Huq took part in the seminar chaired by Selina Khaleque.

The speakers also appreciated the United Nations for declaring the current year as the Year of the Older Persons.'

They also urged various Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to come up with projects providing necessary facilities such as free medical check-up and special home for the elderly citizens.
