'BONN, Feb'1 (Reuters/ Internet): Germany national team coach Erich Ribbeck said on Monday he intends to make the team's two leading goalkeepers, Bayern

Munich's Oliver Kahn and Borussia Dortmund's Jens Lehmann, sit down and end their war of words.

However, said Kahn, such a compromise is unnecessary.

'We can save ourselves the trouble, because it is obvious who is number one. If my performances continue as they have been, then I will be number one until 2006.

Others can apply then," Kahn said.

Lehmann, who recently joined Dortmund from AC Milan, pointed to shaky performances by Kahn in recent matches against Turkey and the Netherlands as a reason for picking him over Kahn.

By 2006, both goalkeepers will be 37 years of age.

Ribbeck said it was natural the two should compete for top spot and he was pleased Lehmann was back in the Bundesliga as it would be easier to see him play.

But Kahn remained the first choice.

"Oliver Kahn is there for now and h.- has waited long enough for that place himself. Ribbeck said.
