Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) has congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her announcement of formulating a national newspaper policy, reports BSS.

The working session of the BFUJ biennial conference held on Sunday also demanded formation of a national committee for framing the policy.

It also demanded of implementation of the Fifth Wage Board Award in all newspapers and news agencies. The conference strongly condemned the non-implementation of the award by many newspapers till now and demanded of the government to set up a special labour court and appoint labour inspectors to enforce the mandatory award.

The conference demanded of the government to help ensure issuance of appointment letters, regular payment, conducive working condition and all facilities for journalists as per related laws under newspapers employees services act of1974.

The conference urged the government to intervene immediately to reopen the publication of Daily Khabar which has been closed by its management without paying salary and bonus of the journalists before the Eid ul Fitr.
