WELLINGTON. New Zealand. Dec 11 (Reuters): Former New Zealand Test cricketer Danny Morrison has said he was asked to sell information during a match in Hamilton against India four years ago, The Dominion newspaper reported on Friday.

But while Australian Test players Mark Waugh and Shane Warne have admitted they took money from an Indian bookmaker in return for pitch and weather information, Morrison said the approach to him came from an Indian player.

The player's offer of $1,000 for the New Zealander to take a phone call and provide information was declined. Morrison said.

"I just looked at him and said: Are you serious?'"

The Test match ended in a draw.

Also on Friday, in a report in the New Zealand Herald, Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin, in this country with his national squad, called for a swift inquiry into recent scandals.

"It is hurting the game, this sort of thing. It (an inquiry) might be necessary but it needs to be finished quickly so we can put it in the past. It’s being going on for ages it seems and there’s no end in sight," he said.
