BNP and its allies staged separate demonstrations in the city yesterday protesting "massive rigging" in Thurs day's Pabna-2 by-polls. demanding re-polling, and to drum up support for their Sunday's countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal.

Yesterday s demonstrations in the city were part of a countrywide programme announced by the BNP- led 7-Party Alliance Thursday evening.

The Alliance components will also bring out separate torch processions in the city today in support of the haratl. BNP will bring out processions from in front of its Nawab Yusuf Marker office at 5 pm and at Mirpur. Mohammadpur. Gulshan and Rampura.

BNP and its front organisations brought out a .militant & recession yesterday from luktangan, which, after parading different city streets, was terminated at Shahbag crossing with a brief rally, addressed by the part’s city unit convener Sadek Hossain Khoka MP.

Addressing the rally. Khoka alleged that AL "terrorists", in presence of telecommunications minister Mohammad Nasim, cast false votes and captured polling centres after evicting BNP agents. "People of the country will try Nasim for his crime" he alleged.

a The terrorist minister had killed many political leaders in 1974 after bringing them out from Pabna jail. People of this country know his past and present misdeeds." he alleged.

Khoka claimed that the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has lost people’s support and is now trying to cling to power depending on BDR and police forces.

He urged the police to remain neutral dpring opposition’s agitation programmes and to stop repression on BNP activists. "Don't resort to repression on our men unnecessarily ... Don’t be too much enthusiastic. List of the enthusiastic policemen

will be prepared for taking action against them in future." he said.

The BNP leader also urged the people to observe Sunday’s hartal and build up a vigorous movement to topple the "subservient" government free the country and the people. He also urged government officials not to attend offices on the hartal day.

Jarnaat-e-lslami. Jatiya Ganotantrilr Party (Jagpa) and Jatiya Party (Z-M) brought out separate processions and held rallies in the city.

Jamaat’s rally at Purana Palton was addressed by ATM Azharul Islam. Advocate Jashimuddin Sarkar. Aminul Islam and Moulana ATM Ma-sum.

Jagpa brought out a procession from Purana Paltan, which was led by party chief Shafiul Alam Prodhan.

Jatiya Party (Z-M) also brought out a procession, led by Shamim Al Mamun.
