Speakers at a regional quality convention yesterday stressed the need for promotion of Total Quality Management (TQM) in enterprises to face the challenges of globalisation and market economy in the next millennium, reports BSS.

"We the evolution of market economy concept, the idea of globalisations is spreading fast. Now there is no alternative but to follow the very concept of TQM to promote quality culture to help this region become future leaders in the emerging movement of globalisation." the speakers told a two-day Third Annual Quality Convention held at the LGED auditorium-

They said such convention would help develop human resources. facilitate technology transfer, improve quality of goods as well as create better understanding among the countries of the region.

Bangladesh Society for Total Quality Management (BSTQM) organised the convention in joint collaboration with the Department of Industrial and

Production Engineering (I PE) of the BUET and Bangladesh Aots Alumni Society (BAAS). About two hundred delegates from home and abroad are attending two convention.

The theme of this year's convention is "Creating effective organisation through participation."

BUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Nooruddin Ahmed attended the inaugural function as the chief Siest. while it was addressed by STQM president Moflud Doula. Head of the Department of IPE Prof Ahsan All Khan, BAAS president ARS Anwarul Haq and BSTQM general secretary Mokarram Uddin Ahmed.

Three papers were presented in yesterday's business sessions by Sunil J Wijesuha from Sri Lanka, Dr Shamsur Rahman of the Graduate School of Management. University of Australia and Syed Shamsul Alam. Director of Public Administration Training Centre (PATC). Four papers will be presented today two by Bangladeshi experts and one each by Indian and Nepalese experts.
