RIO DE JANEIRO. Nov 10(Reuters/ Internet): Boca Juniors continued their domination of theArgentine championship with another win while in Brazil the limelight was hogged by officials, whose squabbling over the fixture list ha& left. the championship in limbo.

Only one match was played at the weekend while directors continued to argue over the games due to end the qualifying stage this week.

ARGENTINA

Martin Palermo took his tally to 15 goals in 14 games as he set Boca Juniors on the way to yet another win in Argentina's Apertura (Opening) championship. the first of two competitions in the season.

Palermo’s 21 st-minute goal was the first in Boca's 3-1 win away to fourth-placed San Lorenzo, who were previously unbeaten in their Nuevo Ga-sometro (New Gas Tank) stadium.

Diego Cagna and Guillermo Barros Schelotto added the other goals in the second half. San Lorenzo’s consolation came through a Nestor Gorosito penalty.

Boca, whose last title was in 1992, extended their lead to six points over Gimnasia-La Plata, who threw away a two-goal lead in a 2-2 away to Estudiantes.

Gimnasia have only five games to close the gap on the unbeaten leaders.

Boca’s bitter rivals River Plate continued to suffer, this time going down 4-3 at home to Huracan after leading 3-1.

River, one place off the bottom. fell apart after coach Ramon Diaz made three substitutions with Argentine international Marcelo Gallardo among the players taken off.

River have dominated Argentine soccer in the last few years but the sale of Chilean international Marcelo Salas and Paraguayan defender Celso Ayala has torn the heart out of the team. But they are in no danger of relegation, which is decided on an average over three seasons.

BRAZIL

Only one game was played in the Brazilian championship at the weekend.

The final matches in the qualifying stage were originally set for Sunday but were postponed until Thursday to accommodate a match between Palmeiras and Vasco da Gama.

This had been postponed in October when Vasco said a court order had banned them from playing because the game was too close to their previous match, played the night before.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) only called the game off one hour before kickoff. by which time Palmeiras were already at the stadium.

Palmeiras. who said they had been made to look stupid, gained revenge on Sunday by beating Vasco 2-1, wrecking their chances of reaching the quarter-finals.

It is still not clear whether the remaining games will go ahead on Thursday.

Vasco say they have booked a flight to Tokyo, where they face Real Madrid in the World Club Championship final on December 1. for the same day and have threatened not to

They plan to play a match in the United States on the way and they want two full weeks In Japan to acclimatise before the match.

The CBF have talked about bringing the game forward to Wednesday, but this would break rules which state that all the final matches must kick off at the same time.

• Goias. Vasco's opponents, are battling against relegation.

The CBF cannot bring other games forward because Palmeiras and Cruzeiro are involved in Copa Mercosur games on, Tuesday.

The 24 teams play each other once in the qualifying stage. The top eight qualify and the bottom four are relegated.

MEXICO

UAG. Necaxa and defending champions Toluca qualified for the quarter-finals of Mexico’s Invierno (Winter) championship at the weekend, each with two matches to spare.

They Joined Cruz Azul and Guadalajara, both in group one. who went through last week.

UAG beat Pachuca 3-2 with two goals by Uruguayan Ruben da Silva and one by Peruvian Roberto Palacios while Necaxa won 3-1 away to Atlante thanks to a Sergio Vazquez hat-trick. Both teams qualified from group three.

Toluca, unbeaten since the opening game of their competition, guaranteed top spot in group four with a 3-3 draw away to Atletico Celaya.

The group winners and the second-placed teams in the groups of five qualify automatically. The second-placed teams in the groups of four only go through if they have more points than the third-placed teams in the groups of five- otherwise they have to play off.

CHILE

Colo Colo, who have led the Chilean championship from the start, were beaten 2-0 in a derby by arch-rivals Unlversi-dad Catolica and saw their lead cut to three points with five matches left.

Marcos Figuerao scored both goals to sink the leaders while Universidad de Chile closed the gap with a 3-1 win away to Wanderers.

PERU

Sport Boys, leader of the Clausura (Closing) championship. were held 0-0 at home by Deportivo Pesquero while second-placed Sporting Cristal beat Alianza 2-0 to cut their lead to two points.

BOLIVIA

Blooming lead the six-team final phase of the Clausura. the second stage of the Bolivian championship, after a 0-0 draw with Real Potosi. Blooming have seven points from three games, one more than San Jose.

The eventual winners will meet Wilstermann who won the Apertura. the first stage, in the final. Wilstermann will be champions automatically if they win the second stage as
