The 41st death anniversary of Major A Ghani, the founder of The East Bengal Regiment, will be observed today, says a press release.

Popularly known as Tiger Ghani', he was born on December 1. 1915 at village Nagaish of Brahmanpara Thana of Comilla District. After completing his higher Secondary education, he Joined the Bengal Fire Service in Calcutta. Later, he joined the British Army and was commissioned in the Pioneer Corps in 1942.

Major Ghani was awarded the Independence Day Award in recognition of his deed in 1981.
