Bangladesh crickeiers recorded a famous victory last night to clinch the three-match series against a strong West Indies A. In the rain-reduced third match, played day-night at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, Bangladesh defeated the Caribbeans by 10 runs.

The series victory against a side that has several national players and some in the making is a big boost for local cricket.

Winning the toss in the afternoon, the West Indies captain put Bangladesh into bat. Skipper Aminul Islam led from the front, and with the help of his 52. Bangladesh scored 229 for seven in their 50 overs.

The match was delayed by a light drizzle after the Bangladesh innings and West Indies were given a revised target of 194 in 35 overs.

The West Indies innings began to collapse from the third

over and they could manage 184 in 34.5 overs, losing all their wickets.

Bangladesh fielded and bowled well in the evening and their victory was a treat for the about ten thousand strong crowd who braved the hartal and the rain.

Requiring 17 runs in the last over delivered by Safiuddin Babu. Ian Bishop was run out in the penultimate ball, well short of the victory target.

Earlier. Aminul finally found his feet as the Bangladesh skipper cracked a well-made half century off 66 balls after Ian Bishop's decision had paid off handsomely. The tourists captured two wickets with the

score on 72.

New-ball bowlers Reon King and Carl Tuckett exploited the conditions.

King struck an early blow sending back Shariar Hossain for zero off his fourth delivery, although Tuckett was the more economical. Tuckett's 10-over spell cost only 25 runs.

After Shariar's departure with only one run on the board, his opening partner Javed Omar and Faruque Ahmed added 71 cautiously-made runs off 22.1 overs before left-arm spinner Neil McGarrell ended Omar's innings in the 23rd over. In his 75-ball innings. Javed had scored 36 with two fours.

Five overs later, Faruque • was run out for 28. In his eyesoring 73-ball stay at the crease, he never dared to play any big shots.

The crowd was expecting fireworks from Akram Khan but the prolific batsman failed to deliver on this occasion.

After clubbing the ball twice across the ropes through deep fine leg, the burly right-hander chanced his arm once too often and was caught behind off Bishop.

Other notable scorers included Al-Shariar (50), Hasibul Hossain's cameo 20-ball 23 and Mr. Sundries 30.

Leg-spinner Rawl Lewis was the most successful bowler with 2-56.

In reply. West Indies A got off to a disastrous start losing their top five for only 53 runs.

• Right arm medium pacer Shafiuddin Ahmed drew the first blood by claiming the wickets of Test opener Sherwin Campbell (16). Reifer (2) and Ramnaresh Sarwan (13) in the space of 12 balls.

Shafiuddin was ably supported by his skipper and two other medium- pacers Hasibul and Khaled Mahmud who evenly shared six wickets.

Hasibul was the most economic among the five Bangladeshi bowlers conceding only 21 runs for his two wickets.

After scoring a magnificent 52 in the first innings. Aminul also shone with the leather taking two for 38. Khaled Mahmud also gave away 38 runs for his two scalps.

One-down Hinds was the top accumulator for the tourists scoring 34 off 64 balls while skip Bishop added 30 off 22 balls.

For his all-round show, Aminul was later adjudged player-of-the-match.
