RAWALPINDI. Oct 9: Pakistan's Muhammad Wasim and Inzamamul 1 laq might be axed lor the second Test after both batsmen flopped while representing Rawalpindi on the second day of the four-day side game against Australia Friday, reports AP.

Selectors gave both middleorder batsmen a chance to regain their form after Pakistan were crushed by an innings and 99 runs in the first Test against Australia earlier this week.

On a wicket where young Pindi openers Muhammad Naveed and Asif Mehmood put on a handsome century stand. Inzamam and Wasim made only five and eight respectively.

Test batsman Ijaz Ahmed, not included in the Pakistan’s first Test line-up. made 33 with the help of three fours and a six off Gavin Robertson as Rawalpindi finished the day at 196 for seven In first innings. This was in reply to Australia's first innings total of 355.

Azhar Mahmood was unbeaten on 13 while Shakeel Ahmed was yet to get off the mark at draw of stumps.

Wasim was run out in a terrible mix-up with Inzamam at the stroke of tea break. Inzamam followed him soon after the resumption when he casually drove off-spinner Collin Miller straight to Michael Slater at mid-wicket.

Naveed and Asif, the two Pindi youngsters, earlier defied Australian bowlers for 40 overs. Naveed was a bit shaky earlier in his innings, taking boundaries off medium fast Michael Kasprowicz in the slip cordon. Mahmood, however, played with lot more authority, hitting most of his nine boundaries through the covers as both batsmen put on an Impressive 108 runs for the first wicket.

Kasprowicz broke the 166-minute opening stand when he got a lucky leg before decision of Mahmood from umpire Javed Akhtar with the ball going a long way down the leg side. Manmood's brilliant 51 featured nine fours and came off 126 balls.

Two runs later. Naveed tried to reach his half century with a big hit but lost his stumps off the bowling of Robertson after making a fine 48 off 134 deliveries.

Pindi lost five wickets in space of 59 runs although at one stage they were strongly placed at 108 for one.

Earlier. Australia added another 27 runs to their overnight total of 328 for seven before their first innings closed at 355. Azhar claimed the wickets of Robertson (42) and Kasprowicz in his third over of the day to finish with four for 83 while Jaffar Nazir (3-66) and left-arm spinner Shakeel Ahmed (3-98) captured the remaining wickets.
