CALCUTTA. Oct 9: CPI-M today made it clear that it would not go for any common programme with the Congress despite its offer of issue-based support to the party in the event of the collapse of the Vajpayee government, reports PTI.

The Marxist had yesterday ruled out the possibility of launching a joint movement with the Congress against the dangers of communalism saying that it did not have any common ground with the party and the CPI-M also had differences on many issues including the economic policy.

Asked whether his party would sit with the Congress and draw up a line of action and programme in case the latter formed the government at the

centre. CPI-M general secretary Harkishen Singh Suijeet said "I am not going to make a fool of myself. Don’t make me a Congressman".

"I have just obtained sanction from the party Congress on how far we can go. We are not going to sit with the Congress and chalk out common programmes." Surjeet told newsmen on the fifth day of the week-long party Congress.

Surjeet also said that during the recent Panchmari brainstorming session of the Congress the party had indicated reverting back to Nehru-vian policy of economy, on the contrary. Congress has been taking pride on the economic policy pursued by the Rao government from 1991 to 1996".
