MYMENSINGH. Oct 9 ; The devastating flood and increas-ant rainfall have caused widespread damage to roads, bridges and culverts in the district. The damage in the communication sector was esti-amted at Taka 36 crore 70 lakh 65 thousand, said the district administration official sources.

During the prolonged deluge, a total of 2.474 km roads were damaged partially and 431 km roads were damaged totally. The flood also affected 463 bridges and culverts. The sources also added 391 km embankments were affected while 97 km embankments were damaged completely.

According to district Administration official sources, the damaged roads are: 162 km in Dubaura thana. 473 km in Sadar. 423 km in Phulpur, 246 km in Gafargaon. 56 km in Gouripur. 227 km in Mukta-gacha. 130 km in Trishal. 187 km in Iswarganj 215 km in Phulbaria. 250 km in Nandail.

246 km in Bhaluka and 190 km in Haluaghat thana. In sadar, Dubaura and Haluagaht thana 374 km roads were damaged completely, the sources added.

According toR&H Department sources. 72 km highways, 84 km feeder roads. 15 culverts and a bridge were damaged totally or partially by unprecedented flood this year. The loss caused by the flood was estf-amted at about Taka 15 crore 80 lakh.

The Local Government Engineering Department experienced a huge loss by the recent flood. The damaged roads of the department include 1411.49 km kutcha roads and 45.05 km pucca roads. The loss was esU-amted at Taka 10 crore 29 lakh 60 thosuand. A total of 274 bridges and culverts were also damaged that caused a serious loss at Taka 6 crore 2 lakh 10 thousand, official sources added.The Ziila Parishad also faced a loss of Taka 77 lakh in communication sector, offi-

cials of the concerned department said. A total of 7.25 km roads of the Ziila Parisad were affected by the recent flood worth about Taka 35 lakh 50 thousand. 3 bridges and 4 culverts were also damaged causing a loss of Taka 24 lakh and 17 lakh 50 thosuand respectively.

The prologned deluge also affected the roads of Mymensingh Municipality. A total of 51 roads of the municipality were affected. The flood caused a loss of Taka 3 crore 23 lakh and 35 thousand affecting the roads of the municipality, said concerned officials.

Following the widespread damage to roads, bridges and culverts by flood movements of vehicular traffic are being disrupted causing serious sufferings to the people.. Bridges and culverts especially in the remote areas of sadar. Dubaura. Gafargoan. Haluaghat. Trishal and Bhaluka thana have also been damaged.
