Heavy monsoon rain in the upstream regions of the country yesterday posed a new threat to the overall flood situation, report agencies.

The flood situation in the upper part of the Brahmaputra above the Slrajganj district, the upstream of Meghna basin in greater Sylhet were likely to deteriorate again.

Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) yesterday said the situation in downstream of these basins as well as central parts of the country may remain unchanged.

In the Ganges basin the situation. as whole, will continue to improve while around Dhaka city the improvement may take place slowly, it said.

Giving reasons of rise of water level in upper regions of the two basins, an FFWC official said water flow in the downstream of these basins became slowed down and water is also coming from the upstream.

Relief Ministry control room said the flood situation in Dhaka and its adjoining areas

unchanged in Chandpur. Bogra and Munshigani districts. However. the overall flood situation in other places of country Improved further.

According to the control room, no flood related death was reported from across the country keeping death toll to 270 on Thursday.

The FFWC said 10 rivers of the Brahmaputra. Ganges and Meghna basins were flowing above their red marks at 13 points.

The major rivers around Dhaka and its adjacent areas were also flowing above their respective danger levels.
