State Minister for LGRD anti Cooperatives Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya yesterday said provisions have been made in the Fifth Five-Year Plan (FFYP) to set up polytechnic and vocational institutes at district and thana levels to promote technical education in the country suiting the needs of the time, reports BSS.

A total of 16 polytechnic institutes including three for women and 20 vocational institutes will be established by the

current fiscal.

Speaking as the chief guest at a two-day training workshop on ''Formulation and implementation to solve water stagnation at poura areas" Maya said under the FFYP the government has also proposed to establish few more science and technology universities in the country.

Institute of Diploma Engineers (IDE), Bangladesh, organised the training workshop at

the Technical Training Institute at Tejgaon in the city. Above one hundred diploma engineers from different pourasabha of the country are taking part in the workshop.

IDE president Rafiqul Islam Bhuiyan chaired the Inaugural session while Its general secretary AKMA Hamid also spoke.

Maya said the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina believes In the politics of transparency so it has already an-

nounced the science-based na tional education policy prepared by the experts and pundits in the light of Kudrat-e-Khoda Commission report.

Lauding diploma engineers for the contributions towards nation building activities and different democratic movement including the War of Independence in 1971 Maya said diploma engineers played special role against corruptions of the past government.
