Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria yesterday underscored the need for preserving the true history of the nation so that it can be a guideline for the future generations, reports BSS.

"Many a person can make attempts to distort the history, but ultimately the truth comes out, he said while addressing as the chief guest a seminar held in the city to mark the 85th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh National Museum.

Presided over by chairman of the National Museum Trustee Board Prof Mustafa Nurul Islam. the seminar was also addressed by State Minister for Sports and Cultural Affairs Obaidul Quader, former curator of the museum Professor Emeritus Serajul Huq. and Director General of the Museum Sham-suzzaman Khan.

The finance minister said the true history of the country had been distorted by the vested

interest groups in the past. He described the Liberation War as the greatest glorious event in our history of thousand years through which the Bengalees emerged as a nation under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mu-jibur Rahman.

National Museum can play an important role in preserving the glorious past of the nation to provide guidelines for us to help build a prosperous country, he added.

State Minister Obaidul Quader. in his speech, said the government is committed to restoring the reputation of the national museum.

The government is trying to enrich the museum with rare collections, he added.
