The one-man judicial commission probing the Rubel murder incident is likely to seek 15 days’ extension of time for submission of its report.
The commission may seek the extension tomorrow, official sources said. The earlier scheduled time for submission of its probe report will expire on August 11.
Meanwhile, the commission comprising Justice Habibur Rahman Khan has asked the DC and the ADC of Detective Branch of police to appear before it today.
Yesterday, the commission
recorded the statements of two witnesses to the torture on Rubel near his house in Sid-dheswari.
Shamim Reza Rubel, a BBA final year student of Independent University, was killed in the custody of the DB police on July 23.
Journalists Rahat Khan and Motiur Rahman Chowdhury yesterday gave their opinions before the commission on the system of remand, interrogation in custody and the Section 54. sources said.
A CID team visited Rubel's house yesterday.
The CID investigators will begin questioning the family members and relatives of Rubel today.
Tlie CID officials hoped that they would be able to crosscheck the statements of the remanded plainclothesmen with those of AC Akram, another accused in the murder case, who is likely to be remanded this week.
Investigators have so far confirmed that at least six DB policemen were directly involved in the torture on Rubel after he was picked up by the DB team at about 4:30 pm on July 23.
The CID has also asked two DB Sub-inspectors to report to the Investigating team for questioning in connection with the murder.
Constable Mir Faruq. an accused plainclothesman, in his judicial statement before the magistrate last week reportedly named SI Nurul Alam and SI Tareq as the other members who were also involved in the torture.
However. CID investigators have not found any "useful information" so far from Hav-llder Abdul Quddus of Special Branch who was arrested a week ago.
Quddus was held for his alleged attempt to meet constable Parvez, also an accused in the case.
The five-day remand of Quddus ended yesterday and he is likely to be produced before the i MM’s court today.
