SATKHIRA, July 7: BNP Chairperson and Leader of the Opposition in Jatlya Sangsad Begum Khaleda Zia will hold a public meeting tomorrow at Baburabad where four landless persons were killed in police firing on July 27.

Ine four persons were killed when police tried to secure 1760 acres of leased out land from the landless peasants who were living there since 1991.

Local opposition parties brought out several processions in the town today and chanted slogans condemning the "failure" of the local administration in protecting the rights of the landless people and demanding trial of the killers.

Meanwhile. Health and Family Planning Minister Salahuddin Yusuf arrived in Satkhira this morning. He held meetings with the local administration. political leaders, lawyers and journalists before leaving for Dhaka in the after-

noon. Before leaving he told journalists that he would brief the Prime Minister on the situation at Baburabad.

Eleven days after the police action, dozens of injured women were seen lying on the corridor of Satkhira Sadar Hospital today. Some of them were bullet-hit in the police action. hospital sources said.

When contacted, the DC of Satkhira told this correspondent that the action at Baburabad was taken as per a decision of the relevant authorities. He said no further action will be taken till the Judicial probe committee submits its report within a month.
