SYLHET, Aug 7: Thirty leaders, including the general secretary of Sylhet city unit and president and general secretaries of 11 ward committees of BNP have resigned from their posts today to protest what they called a decision by the party’s central leadership degrading the status of the city unit to a town unit.

A press release issued and signed by the central BNP secretary general Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan on August 4 stated that a full-fledged Sylhet city unit would be formed after 3 months. The press release also said the decision had been taken as 27 ward committees of the newly-formed Sylhet city are yet to be completed.
