A police constable. Jasim-uddin, was sentenced for life by a city court yesterday for raping a girl.

Tapan Kumar Rudra. Special Tribunal Judge. Dhaka tried Jasimuddin under the Nari O Shlshu Niijatan Daman Ain. 1995. (Women and Child Repression Prevention, Act. 1995) and gave the sentence.

Seven witnesses were exam-

ined in the case.

Jaslmuddin had raped Rokeya Begum at a train compartment at the Kamalapur Railway Station on May 25. 1996.

Rokeya came to Dhaka with her husband. When her husband went outside leaving her in the station. Jaslmuddin falsely arrested her after she refused to have sex with him. He then took her to the train compartment and raped her. Hearing her hue and cry. people came and rescued her and also handed over Jaslmuddin to police.

Jaslmuddin was in service with railway police at that time.
