A delegation of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University led by its Vice-Chancellor Prof M A Quadri called op Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office yesterday. reports UNB.

During the meeting Prof Quadri and syndicate members of the university expressed profound gratitude for setting up the university after the name of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Prof Quadri said the university will provide medical education and medical services in tune with the needs of time.

The delegation referred to certain demands, including land for extension of the university and additional fund.

The Prime Minister told the delegation that there is a decision that the land adjacent to the university for construction of a 5-star hotel would be given to the university and arrangement of alternative land would be made for the hotel.

She said there should be a green belt around the university while constructing new buildings and stressed on setting up of modernised casualty department In the hospital.

She also emphasised that the cabins of the hospital should be more attractive and service oriented.

Hie Prime Minster suggested that doctors may be allowed to do private practice in the hospital and for that they have to surrender a certain percentage of their fees.

Hasina also called for strengthening the welfare fund to provide services to the poor patients.
