The High Court Division of the Supreme Court has Issued a rule nisi on the Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the Syndicate and the Registrar of Dhaka University, asking them to show cause as to why the decision to appoint Dr Aftab Alam Khan to a permanent post of associate professor In the Department of Geology of the DU should not be declared illegal.

The High Court bench comprising Justice Khandkar Mahmud-Ul Hasan and Justice Md Latifur Rahman issued the rule nisi asking to show cause as to why the notification on the appointment should not be declared to have been passed without lawful authority and is of no legal effect.

The rule was made returnable within six weeks. The court also gave a three-month stay order on the operation of the impugned orders dated May 27 and 28. 1998.

Prof Dr Aftab Alam Khan was appointed permanent associate professor in the last DU Syndicate meeting held on May

Prof M Amlnul Huque. Prof Abdus Samad, Prof Md Sazzad Hossain, Prof Md Mustafa Alam. Prof Md A S M Woobaidullah of the same department filed a writ petition in the High Court challenging the validity of the appointment, violating the Dhaka University , 1973 Order.
