WASHINGTON, Apr 3: The United States is too tolerant of widespread human rights abuses in Indonesia and should not allow the country to benefit from billions in International Monetary Fund loans until it changes its ways, a group of bipartisan US congress members said, reports AP.

In a letter Thursday to President Bill Clinton, the lawmakers. including many who are leaders in the US House of Representatives on international, economic and human rights issues. said failure to hold Indonesia to human rights standards would jeopardize support for a US contribution to the IMF.

The House is expected to vote on a Clinton administration request for dlrs 18 billion for the IMF after the Easter recess. The measure has already cleared the Senate.
