UNDATED. Feb 1: Manchester United, the English Premiership pacesetters. Saturday suffered a shock first home defeat of the season while in Germany a record breaking goal inspired Bayern Munich to a 3-0 win over bottom club Ham-bury and away in France, cup action hogged the headlines, reports AP.

ENGLAND: Veteran striker Tony Cottee fired Leicester's goaf in a 1-0 victory for the Foxes at Old Trafford as United's lead was cut from five to four points in the Premier League.

Liverpool and Blackburn, whg started the day bMIs.. behind, tied 0-0 at Anfield and each went down-one place, a® Chelsea. 2-0 winners over last place Barnsley, moved into second on goal difference.

There was trouble at the Portsmouth-Sheffield United 1-1 tie in Division One when one of the visiting fans ran onto the field and attacked a linesman.

Linesman Edward Martin had alerted the referee to a foul by United goalkeeper Simon Tracey and the keeper was sent off. Martin then collapsed having been struck from behind by a fist. The fan was arrested and Martin regained consciousness after five minutes.

Some 55.000 fans at Old Trafford watched in disbelief as United, who are on course for a fifth league title in six season, went down to Leicester.

Former West Ham and Everton striker Cottee. making only his second start of the season at age 32. fired home after United defender Henning Berg had misjudged Robbie Savage s cross.

Andy Cole and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wasted easy chances and Liecester's United States international goalkeeper Kassy Keller made three good saves.

Arsenal's three goals came in a seven-minute spell in the second half. Dennis Bergkamp took a long pass from centre-back Steve Bou Id and ran clear to shoot home in the 62nd minute. Five minutes later Tony Adams turned home Ray Parlour's corner. Nikola Anelka made it 3-0 from Bergkamp's pass in the 69th minute.

Bolton 1, Coventry 5(1-1):

Bolton's Scott Sellars fired home a rebound in the 21st minute after Per Frandsen’s shot had hit the post. Five minutes later Noel Whelan levelled from close range after Wanderers failed to clear Paul Telfer's cross. Darren Huckerby put the sky blues ahead in the 58th minute after Dion Dublin had touched on a huge clearance from goalkeeper Magnus Hedman. He made it 3-1 seven minutes later from Dublin's cross and Dublin completed Bolton's misery with two more goals in the /3rd and 79th minutes.

Chelsea 2, Barnsley 0(1-0): Xhanlu^a VjaBu rspIacuigJGian-franco ,Zola on the starting lineup, gave Cheisea-the lead in the 23rd minute after Mark Hughes had headed down Eddie Newton's cross. Two minutes after the half time break. Hughes took a pass from Dan Petrescu and. after his first shot had hit the post, he headed in the rebound.

Crystal Palace O, Leeds 2 (2-0): Rod- Wallace, currently on the transfer list after turning down a new contract, beat the Palace off-side trap when he took a pass from Gary Kelly and ran through to shoot home in the seventh minute. Six minutes later Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink made It 2-0 with a deflected 20-yard shot.

Derby 2, Tottenham 1 (1-0): Dean Sturridge gave the Rams a 25th minute lead when he latched on to a mistimed back pass from Spurs. Clive Wilson. Ruel Fox levelled three minutes into the second half with a 12-metre strike after Juergen Klinsmann had pulled the ball back for him. Paolo Wanchope hit the winner for Derby 13 minutes from the end when Spurs striker Les Ferdinand, back helping his defence, hesitated and failed to clear the ball and the Costa Rican pounced to stab it home.

Liverpool O, Blackburn O: Rovers goalkeeper Tim Flowers, likely to be recalled to the England squad Monday, made two good saves from Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler and Fowler missed an easy chance 20 minutes frofn the end when he shot wide from close range. Liverpool also lost Steve McMana-man and Jason McAteer through injury during the game.

Sheffield Wednesday 1,

Wimbledon 1 (1-1): Mark Permbridge knew little about his 14th minute strike. Dean Blackwell's attempted clearance for Wimbledon Struck him on the leg and rebounding back into the net. Michael Hughes made it 1-1 in the 21st minute when Andy Booth's header clearance went straight to him on the edge of the penalty box and he fired home with his left foot.

West Ham 2, Everton 2(1-1): Trevor Sinclair scored only 10 minutes into his debut with a low header after he was left totally unmarked. Nicky Barmby header} the, first equaliser ip the 25th minute from a headed pass by Duncan Ferguson. Sinclair regained the lead for the Hammers three minutes into the second half, shooting home from a pass by Eyal Berkovlc. But Mikael Madar made it 2-2 from Gareth Farrelly s cross in the 60th minute.

GERMANY: Brazilian striker Giovane Elber scored the fastest goal in Bundesliga history, 11 seconds into the game, and added another to pace Bayern to a comprehensive win.

As the Bundesliga resumed after a six-week winter break, the defending champions (;ained some ground on surprise eaders Kaiserslautern, who managed only a 1-1 draw at Schalike. the UEFA Cup Champions.

Kaiserslautern now lead Bayern by two points. 46-44. while Stuttgart are a distant third with 36.

In other matches Saturday. Hertha Berlin edged Wolfsburg 1-0, Hansa Rostock trounced 1860 Munich 3-0. Werder Bremen rallied to beat Arminia Bielefeld 2-1 and Cologne escaped from the bottom by de-feating Borussia

Bayern took the lead from the kickoff, when Mario Basler looped a 40-metre pass into the Hamburg area. And while Hamburg goalkeeper Richard Golz and defender Stefan Boeger crashed into each other, Elber headed in the first goal only 11 seconds after the opening whistle, the quickest goal scored in Bundesliga's 35-year-old history.
