TANGAIL. Feb 1 : A newly elected Union Parlshad (UP) chairman, accused in a murder case, surrendered to police soon after taking oath of office on Wednesday, reports UNB.

Sayedul Islam Dudu, chairman of Falda Union Parishad in Bhuapur thana, took oath along with other chairmen and members of different union parishads under the thana and straight went to the local police station with some of his supporters.

He was sent to jail after a magistrate rejected his bail prayer.

Dudu and 16 others were charged with killing one Abdus Salam. The later was injured in a clash on December 13 during a post-election victory procession and died in a hospital on December 16.

Of the accused. 14 had earlier surrendered to police and 10 of them were granted bail. Two of the accused were absconding.
