Executives of the BOC Bangladesh Ltd are happy that the head of the state came and laid the foundation stone of one of its new plants.

"I feel very much proud of it.” Managing Director A Has-nat Khan told this correspondent after President Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed laid the foundation stone of an air separation plant of the British multinational here at Rupganj, Narayanganj.

The planned plant will be the largest in the country with a capacity to produce 80 tonnes of liquefied oxygen, nitrogen and other gases every day. The exist-

In his speech. President Shahabuddin Ahmed said the foreign investors, who were already in the country, especially of the stature of BOC, were testifying to Bangladesh's prospects, potentials and. above all, the business climate.

"It makes a statement of confidence in the congenial investment atmosphere that now exists in Bangladesh.' the President said. "I hope more multinational companies will follow the example."

The Investment that this company is making in the economy of Bangladesh is highly appreciable, the President said.

BOC Group UK has been operating here in the subcontinent for last 60 years and its total investment so far reached Tk 175 crore. In 1973. it was registered in Bangladesh as Bangladesh Oxygen limited.

The President praised the BOC's expansion programme and its promise to deliver better quality products at more com-petitive prices. "I appreciate such a forward-looking philosophy of the company."

David John spoke of his company's safety records in this country ana good Industrial relations. He promised his company would Investment more in Bangladesh.

"We have been here for last 60 years and want to remain here for another 60 years." he said.

BOC's turnover was Tk 80 crore last financial year.
