BARISAL. Nov 10: As the aman' paddy reaping season is nearing musclemen and land lords in different areas of southern districts are getting ready for bloody clashes over reaping of paddy from disputed char land including unsettled government khas land along different riverside areas.

Meanwhile, district administrations of Patuakhali under Barisal division has already taken precautionary measure to curb illegal armed activities of musclemen and local landlords. Patuakhali district administration sources said, decision has already been taken that at least 16 police camps would be set up in different shoal areas under four thanas of the district.

According to sources, these police camps will be set up at Char Lata. Char Kajal. Dariba-harchar, Char Ganga. Char Montaj and Char Biswas of Galacnipa thana. Char Bash-

baria. Char Borhan and Char Hadi of Dashmina thana, Daukhali and Chakamaia of Kalapara thana and Char Pak-dal, Mominpur, Char Baret, Char Pranta and Char Basude-vpur of Baufal thana in Patu-akhali district within a very short time. Old police camps in this district and other southern districts will remain as usual.

One platoon commander, one assistant platoon commander and 12 Ansars will be posted in each police camp, it nas been learnt. There will be one deputy magistrate for each police camp to control the police camps.

The district administration sources also added, there are now 9870 acres of government khas land which have been leased out in different char land in this district.

It has been revealed from a statement of district land office. 4470 acres of government khas land have been distributed

during June 30. 1996 last year while 5,400 acres of such land are yet to be distributed. And as disputes of different types could not be settled as yet for some other char areas, that lands remained still unsettled and undistributed. Final decision from the authority is yet to be taken.

The farmers and people have been residing on these char lands and cultivated and produced food paddy. Now the interested ana vested quarter will engage musclemen to reap the paddy or evacuate the people. As a result bloody clashes are likely to take place. It will leave many people dead and hundreds of people injured. It happened every year. The trouble spots are Char Zahiruddin, Char Nizam. Char Montaj. Char Barek. Char Kajal. Char Lata, including some other disputed char land of Bhola. Pirojpur, Barguna and Laxmipur.
