BOMBAY, Nov 10- Sachin Tendulkar was today retained as Indian captain for the home series against Sri Lanka despite protests from selectors. a cricket board source said, reports AFP.

The source said the five-member selection committee was divided over retaining the 24-year-old. struggling to find top form with thebat. or bring back Tendulkars predecessor Mohammad Azharuddin.

But a directive from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC1) president Raj Singh Dungarpur clinched the issue in Tendulkar's favour, he added.

'At least three of the five selectors wanted Azhar back, but the president had told them before the meeting that it would be unwise to go back into the past." the source said.

BCC1 secretary Jayant Lele. who convened the meeting, told reporters however the selectors had needed just 10 minutes to arrive at the "unanimous" decision to re-appoint Tendulkar.
