There are about 78 hatbazars in 39 unions including two purashavas which are lacking basic amenities for a long time.

Local people alleged that a huge amount of revenue is being collected every year from these hat-bazars but no necessary development works have so far been undertaken to ensure facilities to the people.

Almost all the hat-bazars go under water in the rainy season and become muddy and slippery. Waters remain stagnant in the bazars for want of proper drainage system.

Shops and business centres have sprung up haphazardly, beside the roads and lanes. The' rounds are very narrow and vehicles cannot ply smoothly causing Inconvenience to the commercial activities.

Most of the bazars lack tubewells and the people are forced to use contaminated pond water.

Besides, almost all the hats and bazars have no latrines. People are to respond to the call of nature beside the bazar polluting the environment. Cattle are also being slaughtered In and around the bazar areas for want of slaughter house.

Local leaders urged the authorities concerned to take steps to develop these hats and bazars for the interest of the buyers and sellers alike.
