Train communication between Dhaka and some other were disrupted on the first day of the 48-hour industrial strike and barricade programme of the workers of Jute, textile and cotton mills yesterday. Railway sources said.

Many Jute, cotton and textile mills in both the public and private sectors remained closed yesterday. During the strike, the workers held small rallies in different industrial areas of the country.

According to a press release issued by the police headquarters. movements of road trans port in parts of Chittagong, Comilla, Jessore and Khulna districts were partially dis rupted The workers created obstructions in the movement of trains in Kumira and Sitakundu stationa in Chittagong and Ghorashal station in Narsinghdi district.

According to the pro-Sammes announced earlier, e workers are scheduled to observe the industrial strike till this evening and rail road barricade till noon today

The workers of the Jute. textile and cotton mills went for pressing implementation of some demands that include Implementation of the Wage Commission recommendation of 1991 in the private sector Jute and textile mills, formation of Fifth Wage Commission and giving financial benefits to the Jute and textile sector workers considering the already announced Fifth National Pay Scale and stoppage of indiscriminate privatisation of the public sector Jute and textile mills.

Abul Basher, a leader of the lute sector workers, told The Daily Star that the workers went for the agitation following the government's failure to implement two separate accords

on June 21 and August
