There will be no loadshedding from middle of next year when about 1000 megawatt of electricity would be added to the existing generation. Energy Minister Noor Uddin Khan informed Parliament yesterday, reports UNB.

Replying to a supplementary from ABM Abul Kashem (Awami League-Chittagong). he said the government expects the newly generated electricity to be available from June-July next year.

The 1000 MW of new generation would come from the barge-mounted power plants. Besides, the land-based plants and rehabilitation of old power plants would also supply some extra megawatts, the minister said.

Khan told AlhaJ Mokbul Hossain (Awami League-Dhaka) that the loadshedding situation would improve within next two weeks as some plants, now under overhauling, would be made operative by then.

The minister further said that the country is expected to generate about 2069 MW of new electricity in next three years with the installation of new power plants in the public and private sectors.

Replying to a written question of Mohammad Fazlul Azim (BNP-Noakhali). Khan told Parliament that a number of new power plants would be set up in phases in both the public and private sectors by the year 2000.

The energy minister said 589 MW of electricity in the public sector and 1470 MW in the private sector would be produced during this time.
