Estate Department officials of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) are seeking more police assistance to continue the demolition of unauthorised structures of different political parties in the city, sources concerned said.

The move is being taken af ter several hundred people resisted the magistrate led DCC demolition team yesterday in Its bid to demolish a PDP Club at Mirpur. Pallabi Block-C Officials in I be team said the Club belonged to an Awami League supporters' group.

Estate Department officials were holding meeting yesterday with the acting mayor and the chief executive officer of arrange for more police assistance during the operation, scheduled to continue till October 27.

By the time It suspended the operation yesterday, the team had dismantled 11 illegal structures belonging to different parties and their front organisations in Pallabi area, officials said, showing a document.

"We demolished 11 structures of which four belonged to BNP and seven to Awaml League and its front organisations." said an official of the Estate Department which was coordinating the whole operation.

The shops around the field were, however, seen back to business in the afternoon. The owner of a restaurant at one comer told this correspondent eviction like this occurred several times in the past. "It continues for a week then dies down, there is no problem for us." he said.

Estate Department officials said that on Wednesday, the first day of the ongoing operation, they demolished 12 structures and the total stood at 23 yesterday. There were about 300 such illegal structures in the city-

The operation would resume on Sunday in Mohammadpur area and continue till the last such structure is demolished, they said.
