A five-mernber committee I has been constituted for study-I ing the feasibility of setting up | of a directorate of public prose-I cution.

Minister for Law. Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ab dul Matin Khasru announced this al the monthly coordination meeting of officials of the ministry yesterday.

When contacted, the minister said the committee's report will help introduce certain reforms in the judicial arena

“It has been formed to suggest measures to improve upon the efficiency of the Judicial system.” Khasru said adding, that its findings will also be placed before the bar associations for their suggestions.

The committee with additional law secretary Khandaker Mohammad Abu Bakr as its convenor has been asked to submit its report within a month

The committee will study the existing system of appointment of public prosecutors by the government and suggest measures for regularisatlon of their Jobs, said a committee member.

At present a public prosecutor is appointed by the law ministry under the Legal Remembrance Manual on the recommendation of the district Judge and that of the district magistrate concerned.

One Public Prosecutor Is appointed for each district while assistant public prosecutors are appointed according to the requirement of the government The post of Additional Public Prosecutor was created for some particular districts about four years back.

Before finalising Its report, the committee will also study the system of appointment of government law officers in some neighbouring countries, sources said
