Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria yesterday advised the officials to ensure the submission of income tax return by house and car owners brought under compulsory return-submission net, reports UNB.

He directed the tax commissioners to ensure that all the 6 lakh taxpayers having taxidentification number submit their return for this year.

He was addressing a review meeting on revenue situation with the Customs and Taxes Commissioners in the conference room of the Finance Ministry. Chairman of the National Board of Revenue and its members were also present.

The minister suggested the officials to be careful so that common people are not harassed during the collection of revenue and become more sincere in their efforts to achieve the target of revenue collection.

The meeting expressed the opinion that the present situation of revenue collection is satisfactory.

After reviewing the situation. it was revealed in the meeting that the tax revenue collection in July-September quarter of 1997 was Tk 345 crore higher than that of the corresponding period of the previous year (1996).

The meeting reviewed in detail the areawise excise. VAT and tax-collection activities, said an official release.
