Villagers of sadar thana in the district have been organised under the project — South Asia Poverty Alleviation Programme — that put emphasis on social mobilisation through institutional development at Sassroots. And about half of ose village organisations (VOs) are women's organisations.

Prime Minister Hasina visited the project area to see for herself the progress and prospect of the model project sponsored by UNDP with the help of the governments of South Asia.
