The High Court yesterday Issued a rule nisi on the Deputy Commissioner of Kishoreganj and four others for not fulfilling the reserved quota for the children of freedom fighters in case of non-availability of freedom fighters.

The division bench of the HC comprising Justice Md Mainur Reza Chowdhury and Justice M M Ruhul Amin issued the rule nisi on the Deputy Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner. Kishoreganj, Secretaries of the Ministry of Establishment and Land Administration and Reform and the Chairman, Land Reform Board upon the writ petition filed by one Abdul Qayyum. son of a freedom fighter.

By the rule nisi the HC directed the respondents to show cause within two weeks as to why the selection of candidates for appointment in different posts in the office of the Deputy Commissioner. Kishoreganj vide two office memoranda dated July 27, 1997 excluding the 30 per cent quota reserved for the children- of freedom fighters shall not be declared to have been made without lawful authority and is of no legal effect.

The court also ordered the respondents to show cause as to why they should not be directed to fill up the 30 per cent reserved quota for the children of freedom fighters in the list.

Senior Advocate Habibul Islam Bhuiyan assisted by Advocate S M Rezaul Karim moved the writ petition.
