CHITTAGONG. Aug 7: A consortium of British companies will begin work for building the second port terminal In Chit-tagong this year which will help expedite the handling of export goods and Increase the revenue earnings, says BSS.

This was disclosed by high official of the Department of Trade and Industry of Britain and export promoter of British goods DavId J Burton when he called on President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jafrul Islam Chowdhury MP at the latter's office here today, a chamber press release said.

Burton said. "We have already talked to IDA. OECF and World Bank of establish the second port terminal in Patenga."

Referring to the ban on frozen foods from Bangladesh to the European markets. Burton said Britain is very much sympathetic with the affected exporters of Bangladesh because he observed that ninety per cent export of frozen foods have been processed in proper way and their quality is very good.

He expressed the hope that if Chittagong Air Port is developed into an International airport the port city will be developed as major industrial zone of the country.

Earlier, welcoming the promoter of British goods. Chamber President Jafrul Islam Chowdhury requested Burton to invest in prospective sectors in Bangladesh especially tn readymade garments, leather, chemicals. electronics and electrical and power generation sectors.
