The authorities are looking for a suitable person to head the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Chairman of the SEC Dr Harunur Rashid tendered his resignation last week.

He submitted his resignation from the contractual appointment on June 29. The resignation in all likelihood is going to be accepted when Finance Min ister SAMS Kibria takes it up today. He returned from a visit to Japan with the Prime Minister last night, according to informed sources.

Several names of retired civil servants have been suggested. They include Chairman of Rupali Bank Abu Saeed Choudhury, a former Secretary, and Sekandar All. a former BSB and ICB official.

The Chairman of SEC had been under pressure from different quarters to quit since a probe into the country's biggest scam in the share market ma nipulation led to the filing of cases against 32 people.
