Jatiya Sangsad yesterday unanimously adopted a resolution strongly condemning printing and publishing of "heinous, obscene and blasphemous posters by the Zionist clique" against the Holy Quran and Prophet Hazrat Mohammad ISM).

The resolution also expressed deep anguish at the role of Israel.

Jatiya Sangsad adopted the resolution at 8:30 last night following a discussion in the House on the blasphemous posters published in the occupied Palestinian city of Al-Khalll. Earlier, Foreign Minis-

Earlier, the BNP. JP and Jamaat MPs demanded that a

resolution condemning the incident be adopted by the House.

During the Maghreb recess, draft of the resolution was prepared in the Speaker’s chamber. MPs of different parties took part in the hour-long draft preparation exercise.

The resolution says, "this heinous and conspiratorial acts not only hurt the religious belief and sentiment of world Muslims Including those in Bangladesh, but also aggrieved and worried all conscious people of the world."

The House demanded finding out the main conspirators behind the act and their exemplary punishment. It observed 4hat. sWlLHS^spiraby was ’ hatched to do away with the Middle East peace process.

Reaffirming Bangladesh's firm support in favour of an independent Palestinian state. the Jatiya Sangsad resolved that foundation of an independent and sovereign Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital js the only solution to the Middle East problem.

The Jatiya Sangsad also made a fervent call to the people of the world, all countries and governments, parties, groups, associations, national, regional and international forums and the OIC to exert pressure on Israel to stop its heinous activities against Islam and Palestine.

Earlier, in his statement, the Foreign Minister condemned the publication of posters in Al-Khalll city demeaning the Holy Quran and Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (SM) and urged the world community to press Israel to refrain itself from such heinous activities.

Abdus Samad Azad observed that founding of an independent Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital would be the only solution to the Middle East problem.

Describing the incident, he said that on the morning of June 28 dwellers of Al-Knalil saw posters on walls In the city showing a caricature of the Prophet as a pig stomping on the Quran. Some four to five hundred Jews have settled in AI-Khalil, an abode of 20.000 Palestinians, said the foreign minister adding that the Jews have grabbed 20 per cent of the city's land by force.

Taking floor after the minister's statement. Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the House Prof Badruddoza Chowdhury also condemned the publication

of posters in strongest words and said, people of the counUy irrespective of religious beliefs condemned such heinous act.

He observed that a statement by the foreign minister was not enough to register protest against such an act, rather the Chair should allow a discussion on the issue so that all MPs could participate.

Post and Telecommunications Minister Mohammed Nasim also condemned the incident and told the House that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was on a visit to Japan, had also condemned the incident strongly.

BNP legislator Obaidur Rahman said, issuing a resolution condemning the incident would not be enough, rather a worldwide movement against such heinous act should be launched.

Jatiya Party lawmaker Fa-zle Rabbi demanded that a resolution condemning the incident should be adopted by the House as the heinous act hurt the sentiments of 130 crore Muslims of the world.

Delwar Hossain Saidee of Jamaat said the Jatiya Sangsad should adopt a resolution and the Prime Minister of Israel should be asked to beg unconditional pardon. He also demanded enactment of a blasphemy act so that Judaism could not be preached in the country.

Later, Speaker Humayun Rashid Chowdhury expressed his view sharing the strong sentiment of the House and suggested that draft of a resolution could be prepared in his Chamber during the Maghreb recess.
