POINTE-A-PIE-RRE. June 5: Opening batsman Su-. ruj • -Rag««rrath cracked an unbeaten century to lift Brian Lara's Trinidad and Tobago to a surprising three-wicket triumph with seven balls to spare over Sri Lanka in a limited overs match at Guaracara Park on Wednesday, report agencies.

Ragoonath struck three fours and six sixes in an innings of 110 not out that laid the foundation for Trinidad and Tobago to reach their revised target of 215 in 39.5 overs after Srl Lanka had been limited to 226 for eight off 50 overs.

A shower during the break delayed Trinidad and Tobago's reply by 25 minutes, but Ra-Soonath and Ian Bishop, who as been overlooked for West Indies team to contest Friday's sole limited overs international against the visitors in Port-of-Spaln posted a century opening stand that paved the way for things to come.

Bishop, promoted to the pinch-hitting role at the top of the order for the first time, justified his captain Brian Lara’s confidence with a robust innings of 53.

When Bishop and Andre Lawrence were dismissed within eight runs. Lara joined Ragoonath and they added 61 for the third wicket.

Panic soon swamped the home team when three wickets fell in one over, two through run-outs. When Nigel Francis missed an expansive drive, Trinidad and Tobago had lost five wickets for 15 runs and had slumped to 189 for sevej^—

The pair added the 26 needed for victory, Ragoonath virtually sealing the result with his sixth six. a pull over square leg off left-arm quickie Nuwan Zoysa in the same over that victory was achieved.

Ragoonath batted 199 minutes. faced 140 balls and hit three fours to add to his six sixes.

Sri Lanka, who were resting captain Arjuna Ranatunga, vice-captain Aravinda de Silva and explosive opener Sanath Jayasuriya, were led by Marvan Atapattu, Hashan Tillekeratne and wicket-keeper Romesh Kaluwitharana.

Opener Atapattu added 63 for the third wicket with left-hander Hashan Tillekeratne after Sri Lanka had stuttered to 41 for two. Atapattu top-scored with 55. while Tillekeratne fell one short of his half-century.

Kaluwitharana buoyed down the innings later with a typically aggressive 42.

Leg spinner Rajindra Dhanraj. who has played four Tests for the West Indies, was the most successful of the local attack. with four wickets for 58 runs off 10 overs.

Sri Lanka play their only one-day international of the tour at the Queen's Park Oval in Port-of-Spain here on Friday. That match is followed by a three-day game against the Leeward Islands and two Test matches.
