Seamer Andrew Caddick took five wickets to put England in the driving seat on the first day of the first Test against Australia at Edgbaston yesterday.

Earlier, Australia skipper Mark Taylor won the toss and quite surprisingly elected to use the wicket first. The decision soon backfired as the tourists lost all of their recognised batsmen with the scoreboard reading at 48/7. But a defiant 47 by star leg-spinner Shane Warne helped Aussies pass the hundred mark. The Aussies batted 150 minutes, faced 31.5 overs before being bundled out for a humiliating 118.
