JAMALPUR. Apr 3: President Shahabuddin Ahmed today said it is not only the students but also the teachers who are to be blamed for unfair practices in the examinations, reports BSS.

The President said if the teachers perform their duties properly in teaching the students, give them regular hometasks, take frequent tutorials and keep themselves aloof from "private tuitions." there would be no unfair practice in ^r^xamlriations.

Chaired by celebration committee chairman. Mohammad Azizul Huq, the function was also addressed by Minister for Commerce and Industries Tofael Ahmed. State Minister for Land Hashed Mosharraf. State Minister for Religious Affairs Nurul Islam, Mirza Azam MP. Jamalpur District Awami League president Professor Mohammad Shahidullah and Headmaster of Pingna High School Bahauddin Mia.

The President advised the students to try for more practical and pragmatic approaches to education rather than running after certificates only.

President Shahabuddin said the certificate-oriented education fails to make room for employment opportunities. So. for practical reasons, he said, "we have to opt for career-centered mode of education."

He mentioned the bad practices of copying for passing examinations and said the practice has "gone too far" as the students sometimes protest for not allowing them to copy in the examination halls.

Referring to his own schooling days, the President said there was a very few instances of "private tuitions" and only less meritorious students used to take lessons from the private tutors.
