NATORE. Dec 31: The present government took up a plan to establish an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in the neglected North Bengal region for its development.

According to sources, there is a bright prospect of establishing an EPZ at Ahmmadpur in the district as per technical and geographical feasibilities. The people connected with trade, commerce and industries here have been urging the government to conduct methodological survey and technical, geographical feasibility studies regarding the probability of establishing an Export Processing Zone at Ahmmadpur In the district.

Natore is the key centre of entire northern and southern parts of the country in respect of communication.

Ahmmadpur is situated on Natore-Dhaka highway by the side of the river Nandokuza1, 12 kilometres east of Natore town. It has above 200 acres of land suited for EPZ.

The link road of Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge (JMB) with the Natore-Dhaka highway is being constructed through Ahmmadpur.

A sound business communication on the waterway with the different parts of the country including the capital city and port city has been established earlier as the river 'Nandokuza' is well connected with the main rivers of the country that flows

through Ahmmadpur.

Besides. Natore is well communicated by railway with the bordering districts and sea-port of Khulna. Ishurdi Airport is nearby Ahmmadpur and national' greedline of country's electricity goes through Ahm madpur.

Industrial experts are of the opinion thaf as Ahmmadpur is well connected by road. rail, water and air ways, EPZ of northern region may be established there.

It may be mentioned that there are' 14 sugar mills in the country and 10 of them produce two main by-products — soupmolasses and cane-coir which remain abandoned every season. This huge quantity of byproducts can be used in alcohol and pertex industry tn EPZ for exporting.
