BNP Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan yesterday warned the government that his party would soon build resistance instead of protesting the ‘conspiracy1 to run Parliament without Opposition, reports UNB.

"The government has hatched a conspiracy so that the Opposition cannot return to Parliament, They did not hold any formal or informal discussion with us to resolve the crisis through meeting our demands," he said.

The BNP leader was addressing a meeting organised on the occasion of 16th founding anniversary of the Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal. the peasant front of BNP. at the party central office in the evening.

Bhuiyan said the BNP wants a democratic atmosphere in the country which was being destroyed by the ruling party and the Speaker's one-sided role in running Parliament. "If the atmosphere is created, we must sit for discussion."

The BNP leader, who is also president of Krishak Dal. criticised the government for the sufferings of peasants who he said, are not getting fair prices of their produce. "They have to buy fertiliser at high price. "

He said the Awami League, before its assumption of power, uttered a lot of tall talks about improving the condition of the farmers. "But it has already broken the backbone of the farmers." he added.

Bhuiyan said the government had failed to provide fertiliser to farmers at fair price which is selling between Tk 300 and 500. He claimed that despite hartal and blockade. the price of fertiliser did not exceed Tk 250 during the BNP period.
