RANGPUR Nov 10: A Special Court here today framed charges against all Ine nine accused in the Yasmin murder case

Yasmin was raped and murdered by police at Dashmile near Dinajpur town on August 24 last year

The sensational incident had sparked violent mass protests in Dinajpur in which several persons were killed in clashes with police.

The case was later Ir ins ferred to Rangpur from Dina

In his' order, Mr Abdul Matin. Judge of the Special Court framed charges against the three main accused under Section 6(4) of the Women and Child Repression Control Ar t and Section 201(34) of Bangladesh Penal Code (BPC). according to court sources.

The three accused are Mainul Haq. former SI of Kot-wali thana. Dinajpur. Abdus Sattar, former constable and Amrita Lal Barman, former driver of Dinajpur Police Line.

They are now in custody.

The court framed charges against the six other accused under Section 201 (34) of BPC. They are: Abdul Muttalib. former Police Super of Dinajpur. Mahtab Hossain, former OC Kot wall thana. Swapon Kumar Chakravarty, former SI. Kot-wali thana. Matlur Rahman, former OC (DSB) of Dinajpur. Jahangir Alam former ASI of Kotw.di tlm.. aid Dr Md Mohsin Medical Officer of General Hospital. Dinajpur.

The six accused are on bail.

All the nine accused pleaded not guilty, the sources said

The court will examine witnesses against the three main accused from November 26 to

30.

Hie date for examining witnesses against the rest six accused under -Section 201(34) of BPC was not fixed yesterday

The court heard a day long exchange of arguments between the prosecution and defence counsels.

Barrister Aniirul Islam and some other eminent lawyers from Dhaka Dinaipur and Rangpur Bar appeared on behalf of the prosecution. Former High Court Judge Abdul Malek and some others appeared for the defence

The court room was packed with lawyers, journalists and other people.

Some persons including a local journalist were injured when police resorted to lathi charge to disperse a crowd in front ol the court compound

The district Police Super immediately suspended lour constables involved tn the lathi charge.
